Nested in the heart of a green setting, Conques is the obligatory passage on the way of Saint Jacques. The very name of this village evokes the shell, symbol of the famous pilgrimage.
Here the slate of schist is omnipresent, both on the roofs of the houses, arranged in espalier and facing south, as for the paving of the streets.
Stroll, lose yourself in the small alleys, to finally discover the Abbey of Sainte-Foy, famous for its tympanum representing the Last Judgment and its treasure including unique pieces of art from the Carolingian period, including the reliquary statue of Saint Foy.
The stained glass windows, made by Pierre Soulage, give a discreet modern touch to the building.
But there is so much to discover in Conques. The Pont de Pélerins, the Saint Roch chapel, the ramparts ... Enough to spend a beautiful day.
Take time !
Conques is about an hour from Camping La Romiguière, via Entraygues-sur -Truyère.
